So Long Poem by Zara Denette

So Long

I struggle in vain
to break the chains
that bind me to this tortured world.
It's been so long, oh so long,
since my broken wings unfurled.

I dream of the day
when skies of gray
will part and let my heart soar free.
It's been so long, oh so long,
since the sky first called to me.

Forever I'll wait
to pass the gate
that separates my soul from yours.
It's been so long, oh so long,
since I reached the darkened shore.
