Something Poem by Mary Gordon

Something

A November morning under a damp gray sky
A leaf
So easy to ignore this one leaf
Surrounded by so many others
But something
You notice and stop and see
This one is different
Still and quiet lying on red rocks waiting
For you
To see
She has so many colors still
Such a vibrant inner
Something.
You finally notice these colors
And their songs.
And she tells you everything.
"My veins, she says, are the road map of the tree I fell from
The colors, my memories.
Explore."

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I noticed the beautiful colors in this fallen leaf and while photographing it I thought of all that in within me that nobody knows.
