Something Different Poem by Alyssa Rieper

Something Different

Should I shoot?
End it today?
The gun’s right there
There’s no reason to stay
Someone has hurt me
Yes, another man
I don’t want pain
My house is on sand
I talk to people
Every so often
All of them hurt me
Closer to my coffin
There’s no reason
That I should stay
I’ll pick up the gun
And end it today
But wait, who’s this
Who’s talking to me now?
You are an old friend
And you love me, how?
It can’t be true
It wasn’t before
Last I believed
My head got sore
There’s something different
Something true
The way you said,
“I love you”
Should I trust you
With my heart?
Would it be my fault
If it shall part?
Here it goes
You repeat
What you said
Should I go with my heart?
Should I go with my head?
There is something different
Different about you
So I’ll tell you the truth
“I love you, too”
