Something I Look At-378

SOMETHING I LOOK AT-378
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

With whom should I fall in love?
Is the question I often ask of me.
Is it the body, so close, so true,
Since my mother's womb, it came with me?
I see my body ageing day by day,
And know it will succumb to time's cruel sway,
Hence, it cannot be the one I love.

For all the years that lie ahead of me.
Is it the people I call my own,
For whom I've lived, and to whom I've grown?
We swim together through life's whirlpool,
But I look at my blood, relationships so cool.
They've loved and betrayed me, year after year,
All driven by self-interest, I fear.
How can I love these fragile ties,
In a world where beauty fades and priorities rise?

Should I fall in love with my work,
Which gives me purpose and keeps me at work?
The answer is partial, a yes for now.
It gives me identity and shows me how.
But can it stay with me till the end of time?
Or will it slip away, like a lost rhyme?

What about pelf and the power to reign?
Laurels, accolades, grace, and fame?
Position and recognition, glamour and might,
All are craved, but do they bring light?
Have they ever quenched anyone's thirst?
Or led them to life's true beauty, unrehearsed?
Pursuing these, we cheat ourselves of the best,
The real beauty of life, forever at rest.

I came to a conclusion, pure and true,
I cannot love what is fleeting or due.
But what transcends time and stays on high?
I searched outside but found no reply.
Then I turned inward, day after day,
And found the real me in a timeless display.
The condensed version of the universe so grand,
I expanded my soul and took a stand.
I fell in love with it, without any fear,
Its timeless beauty, so pure and clear.
