SOMETHING I LOOK AT-387

Born to Somnath and Umamani's care,

Adopted by Purushotam with love so rare.

In Saribara,1924, his life took its start,

Kashinath and Madhabananda played their part.

Unparalleled scholar, his knowledge shaped days,

Nurtured by Ramakrishna Cottage's guiding rays.

The Ravenshawvian who shone bright and clear,

His fourth rank in I.A. brought peers to cheer.

At Patna University, his matriculation was bright,

Notched fifth rank, shining like a guiding light.

At Radhanath Training, B.Ed., he achieved

Then in Alanahat, his calling conceived.

Headmaster in '46, his leadership grew,

Alanahat High School flourished anew.

Crafting young minds with English and more,

His students excelled; their spirits did soar.

Author of grammar, essays, translations and dramas, profound

Rich legacies are left where his works are found.

Youth uplifted by his wisdom and care,

An educator like him is indeed rare.

Hostels, science labs, cinema hall, school to inspire,

Every corner was enriched with his tireless desire.

Alongside Hemalata, his wife, his cheer,

Dedication doubled with her always near.

Memories of him are cherished each day.

Alanahat's beacon, though he passed away.

Sports, arts, and debates, his students stood tall,

Transforming lives, he uplifted them all.

Even now, his guidance shines bright.

Revered as a legend, a guiding light.

A century later, his spirit remains.

Legacy eternal, through love he sustains.

Alanahat High School holds his name.

Never forgotten, enduring his fame.

(Baikuntha Nath Acharya: A Remarkable Scholar and Human Being

Baikuntha Nath Acharya, an exceptional academician and an exemplary human being, was born on February 1,1924, in Saribara. He was the son of Somnath Acharya and Umamani Acharya and was later adopted by his uncle, Purushotam Acharya. His lineage included devout Brahmins—his grandfather, Madhabananda Acharya, and great-grandfather, Kashinath Acharya.

Baikuntha Nath's early education began at Bhatapada Primary School, followed by Alanahat ME School and P.M. Academy in Cuttack. A brilliant student, he earned a gold medal in Class VII for securing the top position. During his college years, he resided at Ramakrishna Cottage and ranked fifth in the matriculation examination under Patna University. In 1938, he married Hemalata Mishra.

A proud alumnus of Ravenshaw College, Baikuntha Nath secured the fourth position in the Intermediate Arts (I.A.) examination. He graduated with honors and distinction and later pursued his B.Ed. from Radhanath Training College.

On April 2,1946, he joined Alanahat High School as Headmaster, leading the institution to unprecedented heights of excellence. Though an English teacher by specialization, his expertise extended to all subjects. His books, Structural Approach to English Grammar and Essay and Translation, became foundational resources for students across Odisha and neighboring states, shaping their understanding of English. His Odia dictionary remains a widely accepted standard reference.

Beyond teaching, Baikuntha Nath was a prolific writer, playwright, and drama director. His contributions to literature and the performing arts enriched the cultural landscape of the region.

Under his leadership, Alanahat High School became a model institution. He introduced two large hostels, a state-of-the-art auditorium, and a well-equipped science laboratory. He emphasized holistic development through regular debates, seminars, annual sports, drama, prayers, and healthy teacher-student interactions. His dedication inspired students to excel in academics, oratory, sports, literature, and culture.

Baikuntha Nath Acharya passed away on July 7,1991, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his students and the community. His students, spread across the globe, continue to shine as a testament to his guidance.

On his birth centenary, I pay my humble tribute to this extraordinary educator and human being, who shaped many like me into responsible and compassionate individuals. Many have come and gone, but Baikuntha Nath Acharya will remain a beacon of inspiration and a shining star forever.)
