Song Of Deserted Strangers Poem by Alade Abayomi Idris

Song Of Deserted Strangers

Since they wouldn't show us the way
Like the blind, we would walk gently
Avoiding the paths of the bellicose natives
Like the eagles circling an innocent chick
We would hover round and round the unfamiliar terrain.

Since they wouldn't show us the way
Like the exodus of the ungrateful Israelites, we would spend longer time than necessary
Our poor feet would peel from meaningless trudgings
And our white apparels dark from the brawl of belligerent dusts.

Since they wouldn't show us the way
Hunger would become our best friend
Mysteries our solace
With tears of the seed sower
We would work the strange land
And we would reap its fruits.
