Songs Of Maine Poem by William Kruse

Songs Of Maine

The smell of the ocean fills the air
on the rugged coast of Maine,
where the Portland Head Light
stands its constant vigil.

In stately desolation
on a proper green expanse,
the Goddard Mansion ruins
loom austere.

In a sky of quilted gray,
chill winds ride the storm front,
trailing lightning and hard rains
in their wake.

In a sky of sparkling gold
and clouds that run to red,
one fiery, wispy plume of cloud
dominates the scene.
