Songs Of Yesterday Poem by Paul Reed

Songs Of Yesterday

What can it all mean?

Everyone has left the room

That stood there before,

What is this scene?

The past gone 'boom'

Now just hazy folklore;

Ancient Christmas decorations

Made from coloured paper

Crumpled but revered,

Now LED sensations

And throw-away caper

Have suddenly appeared;

We used to love a long time

We held on to the past

So tight,

Now, for no reason or rhyme

Life passes so fast

In the heat of the night;

Come back with me

To those good old days

The golden days gone by,

And let me see

That glorious phase

Of sun and blue sky;

Ease down, take a breath

Venerate the brilliant loving

Of yesterday's gradual changes,

Let this swiftness die a death

Stop the pushing and shoving

Where lovers are only strangers;

Glory in the gentle river

That carries time so slow

Let it take your pain away,

Watch the leaves a-quiver

In the hedgerow

With their songs of yesterday.
