Songs Our Father’s Sang Poem by Daniel McDonagh

Songs Our Father’s Sang

In days gone by
The battlecry
Was Boys of the Old Brigade,
As Celtic’s sons
Sang Rebel songs,
Not caring what the media said.

But a new day has dawned
And these Irish songs
Are forbidden under Parkhead's sky,
How our father’s sit
And reminisce
And Brother Walfrid’s soul asks why?

Will Ireland’s flag,
That DeValera once sent,
Disappear over Celtic Park,
As we’ll never swear
Or take allegiance
To Britain’s Union Jack.

We’re Scottish born
With Irish hearts
So let us raise our voice for Ireland,
Bring back the songs
Of our father’s day
And let us teach them to our children.
