Sonnet 01 Poem by Swelihle Mvelase

Sonnet 01

A crack of climaxic euphony my toes twist
The roar the heat the elated embers
sleep, with an ecstatic hush.

It was a minute of short passion'd air
A minute of fire, till the hot release was spilled there
Now the blazing stick is sterile of its energetic rush,
As a sword, it slows softly
Drooping down low like a breathless balloon.

Because of the shame that shakes my hand,
the guilt that holds and chokes and drops my heart
Deep in a pool of regret
Deep in the disgusting aftermath - thighs of white rain,
So deep it's a gold ring - bright bride for Hell -
I must not do it again.
