Sonnet: God, Let Me Be Straight Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: God, Let Me Be Straight

Rating: 2.8

If straight I am, my mind cannot be weak;
If honest I'm, the liars make me weep;
If good I am, living is tough to eke;
If balanced I'm, I work well, play and sleep.

If humane be, the people ignore me,
If kind I am, the others fear me not;
If love you show, they misunderstand thee;
If forgiving, they think I can't be hot.

Hard-work in life, awaste can never go;
The cheats can't cheat for long and endlessly;
The day will come when success sure will show,
And God will clad His Upright in glory.
Let sufferings and failures threaten me;
I know I'll win on earth, ultimately.
