Sonnet: On Friendship Day Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Friendship Day

All wish to have a good and sincere friend:
One who will help us readily in need;
All want to have a friend who will defend
Us duly: be of use to us indeed.

All wish to have a friend who is ideal:
A solace when in troubles we are caught;
A person who will truly see and feel
Our pain and strife, and help us change our lot.

Yet, no one realizes who one is!
Are we a friend indeed to our brethren?
Do we bestow on others any bliss?
To qualify as friend, do we all then?

A friend is someone more than even spouse:
A depressed mind to hope, he sure can rouse!
