Sonnet: The Countdown Has Begun Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: The Countdown Has Begun

Akin the countdown for a rocket launch,
I wait with anguish in my mind and heart,
Not giving up my principles but staunch,
And still doing my duty and my part.

The environment that was like Paradise,
Now wears a desert look, with lesser souls,
With dearth of righteous ones and people nice,
Has ones self-centered and with selfish goals.

The time has come for me to leave this place;
I've served a life-time, leading sheep that stray;
I cannot wear a mask upon my face,
And feign allegiance to man each day.

A newer door has opened for me now;
To Jesus Lord, my life I give, and bow!
