Sonnet: The Man On The Beat Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: The Man On The Beat

The man who wields the baton, think awhile!
You cannot take the law into your hand;
You can’t assault but cases you may file;
No innocent in jail should ever land.

You guard the lives and property of men;
Your uniform is respected with fear!
You rid the earth off evil-doers, when
You bring solace and wipe many a tear.

Your job is responsible, full of stress;
So noble is your duty towards men;
Take care and caution not to stain your dress;
But transform earth in all ways to Heaven.

You chose on earth, a life of sacrifice!
Let not desires, you ever entice.
