Southern Harbour Poem by Daniel B Kelleher

Southern Harbour

Rating: 0.5

Far down our beautiful harbour
Lay a land that time forgot
Now it's time to start anew
Let the world be its judge

It has tunnels and turrets
Garrisons and moats
Loading bays landing bays
Surrounded by water
Guarded by naval boats

Once known as a fortress
Impregnable to most
Never was subdued
Never was defeated

To be a tourist attraction
For millions to tour
See history unfurl
Beneath a shimmering sky
See how the English
Defended their base
Kept enemies at bay
Passed back to the Irish
Was known as Queenstown
renamed our beloved Cobh
