Souvenirs Of A Road Once Travelled

Betrayal, the one sin that grants you the deepest level of Hell
Next to Judas, you'll remain,
An eternity of reflecting on a life wasted
In speaking ill of those you wronged,
Those you've haunted with malicious words
The lengths you've gone to harm are what dropped you this far…
You've spent your existence parading over names of ones who've once held you dearly.
You utter fabrications of truths they once bore you as little harmless fibs,
One by one, and you gradually open a window into your twisted world.
A regressive slide to familiar ends

You reminisce, not of the good, not of the favors, and not of the friendly gestures

You mock the inviting arms that fold in comfort,
You suckle the integrity out of the nurturing hearts,
Until they've all dried out,
And then claim them as your own

You take in each raw soul, ignorant of your past prey
By the hand, you guide them into your maze
Once secured, you disappear, leaving them to find the other end
Battered, and weary, they stumble from one route to the other
Searching for open grounds, common serene fields

Habitually, they find a way to break free,
But never without a cost
Doomed with stained memories
They stagger away from the wreck, disfigured, abandoned, and alone.
Forever haunted by this fleeting glimpse of a vile soul…
