When I was a sturdy adult tree,
A swarm of vices came, excited to cut me.
To cut me from the bottom, for I would serve them daily.
At the beginning, I saw the falling of ancient trees with swift attack;
Then, I felt a pain when a machine saw roaring on my back.
I knew it was my turn to die as those who perished before
Leaving behind Mother Erath naked and bare.
My anguish and my crying were their hope to see.
Hurling and dragging me to the ground, then slamming my knee!
That was their dream.
To embroil my life in their shame,
With no shelter, devoid of my nature,
Without a flower that carries my future.
That is how they want me to live;
Neither to live nor to die for oneself.
Not to be happy, but to be pleasing;
For they were dancing when I was dying.
That is what they wanted me to be.
As I had been once a dead wood,
I was there, surrendered, to meet their need.
According their believe, my fate is to die and serve;
Not to sparkle like what I deserve.
That is me,
A sturdy adult tree.
