Spiderweb Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Spiderweb

A spiderweb —
concoction, confrontation, confusion.
Saliva streaming down, an insect suspended,
uncertain how to escape the maze.

Like the human world, layered and connected,
we lift our heads, fail again and again.
Intricate laws, irrational numbers, rigid equations,
intimate intricacies — undeciphered, undecipherable.

Galaxies at unfathomable distances, heavy with mystery,
weave their own vast spiderwebs:
black holes devouring all they can,
like insects caught in sudden gallop.

And somewhere in between, there is beauty —
fine filaments dazzling in sunlight,
fracturing into a spectrum of light.

The spiderweb no longer exists.
My imagination dissolves into silk.
Only distance remains.
