Spring 2022 Poem by Mary Champion

Spring 2022

In formidable array
they marched!
Locust-like they descended on the land
ravaging the crops
that fed the world.
Without discrimination
they slaughtered any in their path,
threatening worse
if they dared to resist.
But resolutely the people stood
and they fought for their native land.
They had courage on their side
and even reason,
but reason is no defence
against a madman.
Will courage be enough?
