Springtime Hour Poem by Mark Nichols

Springtime Hour

By Mark Nichols based on Shakespeare from 'As U Like It'

It was a lover and his lass
O'er the green corn fields did pass
Between acres of the rye
Pretty country folks did lie
And love is crowned within it's prime
Therefore take the present time

And who should fear in fields of green
Hungry lips you are not mean
Grazing lovers hypnotized
Living reason giving rhyme
And who should go now there to try
Shoot your arrow at the sky

Hey nonny no
And we sing out for the hour
How our life is but a flower
And the bells do ring, Nonny
Hey ding a ling
In the Springtime hour

Treading light in furrowed plow
The time to seed current now
Planting late into the night
Come you tired come you bright
And who should know where love is born?
Just give a 'hey' and blow your horn

Hey nonny no
And we sing out for the hour
How our life is but a flower
All the bells do ring, Nonny
Hey ding a ling
In the Springtime hour
