Star-Crossed Poem by Nina Bej

Star-Crossed

You are my oxygen
I can't live without you
I'm slowly suffocating now
You've locked me out for the last time
I will find my way into your heart
Whether you like it or not
Because when we race both of us win
No matter who reaches the finish line first

But you're like a book
When I read you, you make me think
You're an unfinished masterpiece
And I want to sketch out the rest of you
Maybe I'll draw myself into the picture

Because whether we're star-crossed or not
I know the path to your heart
Over boulders, under bridges, across oceans and over rainbows
I'm the star and you're the infinite sky
I fit perfectly into your picture
Please, please paint me in
I'm not a delicate flower anymore
Feel free to uproot my life
If it means I'll get to be with you
I'm not tethered to the ground or to you
This is my choice and my decision
I choose you
And I'll choose you over everyone else.
I'm the star and you're the infinite sky
I fit perfectly into your picture.
