Station Pre-Set Poem by Zachary Sharp

Station Pre-Set

stationed
you say something and i laugh as i did
the first time i heard it,
the both of us counting on
each other to forget
and the continued quality of these
past conversations.

the same three movies on rotation,
we watch in silence and sit
too comfortably inside each other.
theres no transition between them,
delineation between each scene, audience to laud.

we return to the same spots, the same song
on the radio, a set list we can count on
as we say good night and exchange a long
motionless kiss. physical contacts a competition
with lethargy we wont win.

subtly, our inhibition, my attention, they slip.
i cant tell when youre around
though im afraid of when youll leave.
