Stay With Me Poem by Zain Durrani

Stay With Me

In a world, with eyes closed,
I take you still, by the hand,
I still live in clouds,
So i take you with me.
The inception, the beginning,
The sun, a clear sky,
The scent of new. Of dreams.
Open, plain pages laid by,
As you walked towards me,
My eyes, still have your eyes,
The air your scent. The soul, beauty.
The memory, smiles. The hands, touch.
The pages, words. The eyes, yearn.
Vivid, Surreal, it's presense today,
A few words & a life time to narrate,
A promise today, shall be kept,
When so many, so many, couldn't.

Listen, to the months that were,
March, then march and September.
Days that touched togetherness,
and dark, that came only to leave,
Only if we could remember.

I remember emotions, from the time,
Riveting, overwhelming, blinding, chilling,
I remember, the struggle to remember no more,
I'll never let go of the day I let it be.
Something as beautiful as you,
as engaging, as you were,
As silly as I was,
the generosity, I learnt.
Holding on, to what wasn't to be,
Yet today, the full circle of
an eternity.
Beyond the curl of bay,
Beyond September, further away from may,
Love has divorced time,
and regret, in secret,
For it drunk, togetherness in days and years,
and sanity.
For it has wings of lightning that flee,
death, self and sea.

Today, emancipation left no lament,
Of the mountains we have climbed,
after the plains of heavens that were...
The unrelenting smiles that tickled,
the nightmares that perturb,
& take peace away,
When I cant see you smile,
When I cant play a song anymore,
when I cant say those names,
I once sat and conjured...
So you could smile, & take peace away.
And ask, 'Once more, '
So you would laugh, so you wouldn't be
tired and cold,
So you could feel you belonged,
Where all the beauty and all the notes,
of music, sighs and a 'yes' and a 'No, '
Were all yours,
for moments you knew,
'I was yours.'
I may have consumed time to learn,
To feel, to reach,
yet in all veracity, I loved thee,
in a world far away,
with eyes closed,
and a heart open to ensconce You & Me.
