Step Across This Line is actually
The lectures, speeches, columns,
Thoughts, ideas and opinions
Of Salman Rushdie
Collected and presented,
All that is in his mind and heart,
All that he stands for,
The hullabaloo and pandemonium,
The topsy-turvy state
And the hotch potch of it all,
But history, polity, religion,
Diaspora, ethnicity, race, genealogy,
Conservatism, freedom, liberation,
Terror, bans, he cannot leave it all.
