Still I Must Look Back To See The Peak Poem by Stephen Martin II

Still I Must Look Back To See The Peak

Remembering the climb
With a smile on my face
And nervous excitement in my knee

I keep my equipment in the basement
It is still in the bag I used that day
So many dark years ago

When I assess my life
I name that climb
My greatest achievement

Look back to the horizon
Do you see that great peak?
The one that seems to touch the sky?

Oh... you've climbed that one.
Well, uh... The one I climbed is down a little
It is just behind those trees.
