Still Life Poem by Kathy Greethurst

Still Life

Storm clouds cast
shadows on white linen.

Cherries sit by black olives
in a blue Breton bowl.

Butter melts into grease ponds
next to a walnut-handled knife.

Empty goblets hide
behind guavas and passion fruit.

Out of sight, a dog stands guard
while the eagle waits to swoop.
