Stones Poem by Max McGovern

If ever I wondered about stones,
As a child I walked away.
Disney dreams during the day
Star-wars raging through night.

I took so long to find me here
Walking in the park.
The wet earth and spider webs
Remind me of soldiers sunk on ships
that never reached the war at all.
The ones who said they’d bring back medals
Walking war-bound strong and tall.

Neverland in fall feels far from home,
my skin’s in need of salt and foam.
Waters left behind and sand-filled shoes
Are not enough to fill my soul.

Pop a pill at this hour,
I know tomorrow will not last.
I’m up at nights now, star-warring
And my mind just cannot pass.
