Story Of The Bat Poem by Katherine Sessor

Story Of The Bat

Angered with each other
Wolves and birds declared war
Only the bat caught in the middle
Wondered which side to fight for

The birds, he thought
For he too is a winged beast
They will accept him by their side
Together they shall win the victory feast

The birds began winning
But the bat felt wrong
He began to question himself
Was this the right side all along?

Maybe the wolves, he thought
For he is a mammel as they
So sides he switched
The birds will surely pay

Now the war has ended
A treaty was agreed
They will not fight each other
The act shall be freed

The armies came together
Creatures, lined on each side
The bat again, in the middle
Both sides he had lied

'You have fought along side the wolves'
The bird leader, the eagle, said
'Betrayal of us, your punishment
To rise only when the day is dead.'

'You aligned yourself with the birds'
The alpha wolf did declare
'Punishment of your betrayal
To never walk on land, banished to the air.'

The bat did what he was told
Banished from day, banished from land
He became the sky creature of the night
That's the story behind our furry bat friend
