Success Poem by Jillian Cameron

Success

One cold winter’s evening I sat with fame and wealth,
Listening to the small talk and thinking to myself,
There were many disagreements at the table at which I was seated,
But they all agreed on one thing – success would you believe it.
They were all quite sure it was inherited from the family line,
Yet here I sat, in suit and tie, and no one knew about mine.
I spoke up, disgusted, and said ‘I really must digress,
‘You are talking of society, not about success.
‘If I may tell you of a man whose mother couldn’t afford a frock,
‘But with courage and determination this son made it to the top.
‘By hope and relentless spirit he forfeit his challenged mind,
‘And through faith and perseverance left his old life behind,
‘With encouragement and time he found the gift he did possess,
‘And used it accordingly to prove that he too was blessed,
‘A thousand minds together never did succeed,
‘At what this misjudged person managed to achieve,
‘It was not by wealth or fame that he reached the levels above,
‘It was by but hope and faith and most importantly, by love.’
