Summer Sonnet Poem by Mary Champion

Summer Sonnet

Bountiful Summer the bringer of light
The distance from dawn to the dusk expands.
Sol, at his zenith, compresses the night.
Nature bestows with a prodigal hand.
Glorious blossoms unfold and break free.
Fields full of corn will grow ripe in the sun.
Luscious green foliage crowns every tree.
Song birds exult for a victory won.
The sky has expanded - deepened its hue-
Low lying storm clouds are soon blown away
As lightning shot lead makes way for clear blue.
Released from their classrooms, schoolchildren play.
Hearing their laughter we're almost assured,
Winter's dark prison cannot be restored.
