Sunlight And Shadow Poem by Dipankar Sadhukhan

Sunlight And Shadow

The light of first creation greets the earth,
As childhood drinks the nectar of the skies;
The dawn of dreaming spirit gives us birth,
And morning's sun commands the soul to rise.

Then youth at noon-day burns with fierce desire,
The sovereign sun hurls down its golden spear;
The ship of labor braves the seas of fire,
And sings of triumph though the storms are near.

At dusk, the lengthening shadows softly steal,
As age and silver hair begin to shake;
The fading twilight makes the memory feel,
The final task that closing days must make.

Then silent midnight drops her heavy screen,
And puts an end to life's dramatic scene.
