Sunrises And Sunsets Poem by Edison Angelbello

Sunrises And Sunsets

The sun is not meant to rise and set as in coming and going
Day gives way to night and night to day
in an allure of warm orange colors
But in the end, just as in the beginning,
The sun will stretch its fingertips
down through the verdant canopy
To remind us to look up along its outstretched arms
into the bright azure sky
To know that that we, alongside God, are the core of life,
For it is neither in coming nor going that true beauty appears
But in staying. What matters in life will always be.

The most natural beauty is not a sunset
but perhaps a family watching a sunset
For as evanescent as is the dangling of light halfway below the horizon,
or the bursting of its chariot out of the sea,
Our love will remain eternal and the thread of life will go on
Even if the Fates should command the sun never to rise again
For life is what is beautiful-is what is bright-about the sun
