Surely You Would Know? Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Surely You Would Know?

Surely You Would Know?
Poor mental health can be genetic though
Time only tells if bad luck's come your way
If you were marked out surely you would know?

At first such symptoms may not start to show
It may be late till they come into play
Folk will say nothing but we told you so

Poor mental health delivers a low blow
Destroys more lives than anyone could say
And help is hard to access ….oh so slow

Those unseen pangs of panic or of woe
Are silent predators, as lives decay
A quiet mind- what bliss that would bestow!

Depression, schizophrenia can grow
Like weeds unseen they root, dig in to stay
And life becomes a land of constant snow

It's found in cottage, housing scheme, chateau
The sufferer can't hide or run away
When it's inside that makes yourself the foe
But if afflicted, you'll already know
