Swimming Under Water Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Swimming Under Water

Rating: 5.0

Swimming slowly just below
the surface: there where dazzling
colours have a hazily muted glow
I lazily bring
my eyes to focus on
the world above
me, beyond the water’s neon
flickerings as I move
around a sudden underwater space
trying to resolve
magical pictures that are all askew:

for a brief while
I watch the flickering show
in a bent world that seems as new
as a child’s smile
on an old man’s face.
