Taking Flight Poem by Dr. Charles A Stone

Taking Flight

Was there a promise
when they met
she might remember
he wouldn't

When they met
a golden eagle soared
above their hearts

she might remember
that she closed her eyes
and wished

he wouldn't
fly away
like the eagle

This is a trimeric (rhymes with limerick) and one of the earliest in my collection. A trimeric is a four stanza poem in which the first stanza has 4 lines and the last three stanzas have 3 lines each with the first line of each of the last 3 stanzas repeating the respective line of the first stanza: abcd / b- / c- / d-.

Nice imagery in this piece. Filled with that feeling of hope that the love will forever last. Nice!
