Tangled Poem by Steffi Webster

Tangled

What do you want?
Can’t you see efforts in vain?
Leave me out to taste the rain
To swallow down the tears of pain.
Each time we invent and break a
Worthless rule. A pen, a gun,
A lie who’s won. Just my own pet
My little fool. Struggle on
Through day and night.
The punches land unnoticed.
Of the fight was unaware
The whisper unclear
Who was it said that life was fair?
If I crawl around inside your
Skin and make your bones
My home would that be right?
To taste the blood of promises
Spilt that wouldn’t turn and bite.
Love on lips now spoken but
Built upon the rules. I think
You’re mine but am I
Yours? Or are we all the
Fools?
