Tears And Raindrops Poem by Quynh Anh Vu

Tears And Raindrops

I think it goes without saying
That rainy days are some of the worst
The whiny noise that can't be shut up
The gross moisture I feel everywhere
Never to mention, that unsettling, earthy smell
That haunts my brain every time rain is near.

I think about all the great things
All the treats, the food, the gifts
Only across the open yard, so near
But yet so far, separated by sheets of falling hell.

***
But, now a quill in my palms
Can't stay true to old words anymore
Everything has changed, ever since that day
When I met you, a darling in the rain.

You were so hyped, you looked so happy!
Amongst drops of hell threatened to flood
Your smile didn't faze, neither did your foot
That bounced around, excitedly happy.

Didn't think it's possible to stay merry
When water's seeping into cold socks
Puddles in new shoes, clothes wet and sticky
Yet you've done it, with sparkles in your eyes.

***
It wasn't pretty, what happened
Now that smell no longer house my mind
But you! For every second I'm conscious
That rainy days are truly the worst

They remind me of your smile and your eyes
Wiped those feeling off, I had, those tears
Only to see then raised back from hell
To be used against me, cruel souls!

I hated rain, but somehow you didn't.
You reformed me, I am truly blessed
How could anything do this to us?
And why does it has to be the rain?

Your efforts long gone, tears mixed with drops
Of hell bestowed from above.
Why, rain? What have I done?
Are two stanzas too much to bear?
