Tell Them Am An African

Tell them am an African
A son of the black race
A race where everyone can
Where the sun provides grace.

Tell them am an African
Of the cradle of humankind
Of ancestors who knew no span
Where the wind cleanses the mind.

Tell them am an African
From the land of sunrise
From flowing breasts am now man
Strong to withstand surprise.

Tell them am an African
Giver of colour to the earth
Giver proud to be God’s man
Strong to brace the maker’s turf.
Hamza Issah Danjuma
