Ten To One - Place Your Bets Poem by Carol Toebe Whiting

Ten To One - Place Your Bets

This could be your lucky day
Beyond common gambler’s play
Countless prayers to nameless gods
One in a million beat the odds

Not by chance anonymous birth
Ought we measure human worth
Pending luck toss the dice
Shake ‘em well, roll ‘em nice

Take a stance
Influence chance
Turn the cards with sleight of hand
World within that grain of sand

With focused drive
Whilst still alive
Fair game to even know
When it’s over and time to go
