That Fateful Day When We Were 15 Poem by Sophie Hide

That Fateful Day When We Were 15

I saw you first during English class.
You were put opposite me.
I laughed and chatted with her,
secretly looking at you.

We chatted on phones,
No one else knew,
Our inside jokes
that no one else understood
but us.

Months pass, I confess,
you confess, we smile.
we kiss, my first, not yours,
only 15 but feeling 18

That feeling overwhelmed me,
I sucked in my breath
and held him tight.
I loved him. I knew from then.

Years fly along with sheets
and clothes. Arguments
don't matter because I
love him. I always have.

Since that fateful day
in year 10, I've always
loved you. Now ring on
finger, bun in oven,

love in heart.
8 years since that
fateful day when we
were only 15
