That Is Enough (For Vicki Schiffer) - Poem by James P. Roberts
If ten percent of my poems are deemed good:
That is enough.
If the space next to the fire is filled with wood:
That is enough.
If the November winds bring that taste of snow
and white-tailed deer leap through the meadow;
if I pause to watch before I go:
That is enough.
If my stories are read on a cold winter night:
That is enough.
If the solitary lamp catches a traveler's sight:
That is enough.
If the autumn leaves cover the forest floor
and tracks of raccoon and fox are seen beyond the door;
If I could simply walk here with you once more:
That is enough.
