That Night Poem by Jitebe Prince Mumba

That Night

That Night….

That's the night I walked out of the darkness into the light,

I never knew all I had to do was look across the road.

Thought I chased pavements, till I realised I was in flight,

That winter night I felt like all I ever missed was bestowed.

I always heard she had a pretty face and curves,

I could not agree more as it's the first of her I saw.

Her beauty lay in the eyes, could stare at them till fall,

They are the path to love, the meal her heart serves.

This meeting brought such a glow to my heart,

The glow a few will see, and only she will know.

A glow so bright, it hasn't dimmed from the start,

Proof that even time can't stop the flow.

This love brings me sweet pain, but I want more,

Driven by a dream I can't control.

I want the truth of her, untamed and whole,

In frantic hope I haunt her closed door.

I wish I knew her thoughts and shared her sorrows,

I wish she came to me when the sun didn't shine and the sky was dark.

So I can remind her that she is like no one else in the universe,

And stand by her even if she didn't love me back.

For it's to my heart and not my ears she whispered.
