The 2 Kids With Burning Hearts Poem by Sasha Hazel Lee

The 2 Kids With Burning Hearts

Oh, step into the morning-light
warm enough to melt the cold from your cheeks
Not so bright it burns your eyes
Oh, put your hand in mine
Let's run into the fields like a burning fire
And set the world a flame to bring it to life

Just two young kids with burning hearts and laughing eyes
Just two young kids in love, with nothing to hide

Walk through lush green forests
The golden yellow light braided in a criss-cross in between the trees
We'd sing and joke and talk about the simple things
The things only young love can bring
Skipping and running - pine needles underneath

Oh, and later in the day
After all the jokes and play
We'd have fun making food together - in the sweetest way
With kisses and a kitchen dance
Playful teasing, you holding me from behind
Like we were living one of those romantic songs we'd sing to from time to time

Just sitting on the porch, seeing the sun go down
painting the world in warm, vibrant colours
Gold to yellow, then orange flame,
To rosy red that has no name
Ending with the navy blue, the lavender and the dark scarlet red
Oh, what the heart felt, no words could ever have said.

As the cold settled in
Cuddling by a burning fire under the coziest blanket
After dancing under the cover of night and a million stars
Your eyes the view, my hand on your beating heart
Oh, the moon could be our disco-ball
The crickets and the humming river could be the background instruments
while we play one of our cheesy, teenage-love songs
The green grass could be the dancefloor,
while the breeze could cheer us on
Oh, and darling we could just be the 2 kids with burning hearts

And we'd seal it all with a kiss.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A poem I wrote about my first love when we were both teenagers. The setting: us in nature surrounded by fields and forests with a couple of lakes and rivers about 10 miles away from a small town (staying in a cozy cabbin)
