The 365th Day Poem by Fletcher Wright

The 365th Day

Can you feel it behind you?
Don’t look at it. Don’t look back.
You know it’s there though, it’s breathing down you’re neck.
Can you feel it?

You can feel your eye lids.
Do they feel heavy? Or sticky? Or warm?
You can feel it.
You know that they are their.
When you close your eyes do you think of the dark?
Being in a Dark room.
With it.
Alone.
No one can hear you’re scream, can they?
No one is coming, are they?
No one can help you.
It’s just you there to help you.
And you’re useless.

Don’t look behind you.
It’s there.
It’s got it’s beady little eyes on you.
You know it’s there,
Just don’t look behind you.

Do you notice colour?
Do you know true red?
You don’t do you.
What if you never knew colour?
Just sky greys, eggshell whites, and wonderful black.
You would never know the taste of colours.
Do you know them now?
Silver. Silver, has such a nice taste.
Do you know it?
Bet not.
Silver is the favor of blood.
Do you know that metallic taste?
Have you ever even thought about it?

Its there. Its standing behind you.
Don’t look at it.
Don’t give into it.
Don’t turn around.

It’s getting cold isn’t it?
Can you feel it?
The tips of you’re finger are cold.
Are you going to try and warm them up?
You cringe at the very thought of discomfort.
Why not pop a pill for this feeling too?
Is it going to help the feeling behind you?
It’s not, its it?
You know that.
You dislike discomfort.
When you feel pain, do you concentrate on it or ignore it?
You ignore, right?
You want it to be away, so you try and pay no mind.
Why not try thinking about it.
Focusing on it.
It goes away so much easier that way.
So much faster.
But you don’t know that.
You’re not going to try it.
Do fear the thought of pain?

Don’t look behind you.
Can you feel it.
Can you picture it?
The darkness?
The nothingness?

Irrational fears.
When do fear become irrational?
When you give into them.
All fear are irrational.
Why do people fear fire?
Do you think they fear getting burnt?
No.
They Fear getting hurt.
Why?
They irrationalize pain.
Pain tells you where you’re limits are.
What if you couldn’t feel anything?
That’d be great to never feel pain,
To never get burnt,
To never feel the violating touch of people.
No, pain is good.
Pain tell us when to stop.

Don’t look behind you.
You know it's there.
You know it.
Have you tried to lie to yourself?
Try to say it’s not so?

What do you think the end is?
Death.
Everyone is going to die.
Trees die, grass die, the
gods of your father’s father’s died.
Why?
They were not needed.
Are you needed?
Are you just empty space?
Are you just wasted matter?
The smirking glares of people.
People kill people.
Nature doesn’t kill people.
Nature doesn’t start wars.
People do.
People kill people.
Why do people bleed?
Why do people seclude themselves from the word?
Because of people.
They hate that touch.
They don’t want it.

Don’t look now.
It’s over you.
It’s behind you.
Don’t look.
I don’t think you want to.

Do you have courage?
No.
No one does.
If someone did, it wouldn’t exist.
Fear.
People live and breath it.
It’s like an air born pathogen,
It spreads like fire.
Have you ever said a last good bye?
Was it painful?
People hurt people.
To find true beauty you look at nature,
Not people.
Never people.
Notice how animals never alter their look?
People do.
What are people?
Animals?
No.
That’s too nice of a word for them.

It’s there.
In the back of your mind.
Don’t look back.
Don’t.
It’s all in you’re head.
It just want you to know something.
Just don’t look at it.
Just rest assured.
All it want to tell you is
Happy DeathDay.
