The Absence Of A Child Poem by Alexandra Love

The Absence Of A Child

Rating: 5.0

This is dedicated to my mother....

Still and silently
I creep
Into your chamber
of sleep
I peek at
you
and then reach
through
to hold your small, soft hand.
Soothingly, I whisper
Lovingly, I sing
to calm you, my sweet child,
for comfort, I want to bring.
You are the child I'll
never have
the one of whom
I hear in my dreams
every night
the pitter-patter
of small little feet
across the floor,
the early morning lullabies...
Dear, I'll always love you
In my heart you'll stay
even if I can't hold
you with my hands
my strong absence
of touch, is filled
with my love,
that cuddles you tighter
than I ever could.
Never leave my memory,
dear one,
please, that's all that's left
the image of you in my mind...
i wish you were here,
so i could wrap you tightly
and hold you close
but I can't...
all I have is a
picture in my mind...
please, never leave,
it's all I have left.
