The Albatross Poem by Jananie Balaji

The Albatross

When the world foraged for her flaws, to get her to drown
Till her flaws became foibles and talents, her prowess
He held her hand all along, as she remained an enigma
Laying brick after brick as she built her fortress

She then reached the pinnacle, the world watched awed
Demanding the secrets of the Judy juvenile
"He chose to correct my flaws and love me with pride"
"He preached that God made us equals", she said with a smile

"He believed that daughters were boons, as rightly were the sons
He taught us both to bake, trained both to fight
Clement yet steadfast, he claimed us both barons
He raised me both a princess and an exigent knight"

When her li'l fingers had curled, clasping his big one
He'd given her his everything, claiming inequality was dross
When she grew to spread her wings, defying all fallacies of weakness
Clasping his hands tighter, she soared, the mighty Albatross!
