The Anna Hazare Phenomenon (India's Anti-Corruption Struggle) Poem by Dr John Celes

The Anna Hazare Phenomenon (India's Anti-Corruption Struggle)

A man in his mid-seventies
A freedom fighter veteran
Fights against a mammoth vice
’Tis Anti corruption!

Alone he fights and defies
The Government for his fast;
He can’t have his ways with ease
Nation watches aghast!

Freedom for a freed nation!
That’s what most people want;
Gone too high has corruption;
People join with a chant.

Democracy does not work,
Riddled by problems great;
Voters turn almost berserk;
Politicians, they hate.

Why give mandate for corrupt?
Let people introspect;
Struggles should not peace disrupt,
The law, we must respect.

The old man will not give up fast;
The bill must involve all;
People unite more than in past;
It is a clarion call.

Yet, no one is above law;
The issue is too big;
No law made is without flaw;
‘A wig remains a wig! ’

One can’t stall the Parliament;
Democracy must win;
A large nation’s one big lament
‘Just root out corruption! ’

The problem is so colossal;
The government’s in a fix;
All expect a miracle,
That needs a magic mix.

Quick victory is not in sight;
The menace must be curbed;
It requires the people’s might;
No use being perturbed.

People from all walks of life
Join Anna Hazare;
Corruption is big a strife;
Vijay ho, hamare!

dedicated to all Indians who fight for a just cause
