The Apocalypse Wartime Blues Poem by Wayne Falconer

The Apocalypse Wartime Blues

Anew century has given new millennium birth.
Upon the net every mother son does surf.
War not peace is upon the airways, airwaves.
And I'm thinking fiery funeral piers and graves.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

Whose stirring up terrorist dish of hate.
Could anew twin towers be our tomorrows fate.
I've heard tell we stand upon the brink.
Well man guess it all makes you think.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

Who said money was the root of all evil things
diamonds, emeralds, oil and gold finger rings.
Hear the one swearing in God we trust.
Our enemies we promise to crush into dust.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

What about anew millennium bringing peace on earth.
While the kids and mothers still internet surf.
Hear promises of an enlightened intelligence age.
Were you and I sitting listening close back stage.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

Hear the sermon bout peace tolerance and love.
Who last witnessed sight of the white peace dove.
Did you hear the bible line bout serving mankind.
Perhaps computer scenes make use colour blind.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

Strange how some men live for money and greed.
While million kids live in poverty, hunger and need.
Desperation and evil is tearing this world apart.
Have we forgotten about love and the good heart.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

Shall tomorrow bring anew hope, glory or sorrow.
Should we pray for sanity not borrowed tomorrow.
Meantime I'm left thinking only what's been learnt.
Has the higher tree of intelligence been burnt.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.

What else to say perhaps we best pray.
Goodness and mercy shall finally win the day.
Except all I'm ever hearing is news war.
Listen to anew century war drum beating score.
Seems everybody has the apocalypse wartime blues.
