The Architecture Of Distance Poem by Martins Akhoeneto

The Architecture Of Distance

Do not merely burn the bridges.
Seal the gates to your inner fortress.
Not every knock deserves an answer;
not every presence deserves entry.

You owe no sanctuary to poison,
no table to those who sour the bread,
no access to those who leave
your spirit smaller than they found it.

Let silence complete what words cannot.
Let peace become your final boundary.
You need not announce a door is closed
to those who taught you why.

Let them wonder. Let them guess.
Their curiosity is not your burden.
Some doors must close without a sound
and never open from within.
