The Battle Won Poem by Aric Beers

The Battle Won

On one knee searching for the strength I need
Beaten and battered but refusing to plead
I reach deep and find the strength to stand
To my feet I rise with sword in hand
Long and hard the battle had been fought
And only by blood will victory be bought
I look him in the eye and smile at his surprise
He thought I was done, didn't think I'd rise
But he should know, know I won't quit
I'll stand my ground and take every hit
Cut, battered, bleeding but I'll fight
I won't stop till I see the light
With sword in hand I charge at my foe
Fighting through pain that no man should know
The sounds can be heard as our blades meet
A clang the echoes through the empty street
The sweat drops reflect light from the fire
We press on fighting, victory our desire
Blades flash cutting through cloth and skin
The pain is intense but so is our desire to win
Blows are exchanged, blood is spilled
Long we fight till my opponent is killed
There I stand battered and torn
But in that moment triumph is born
The prize is great but so was the cost
Damaged, my life nearly lost
Falling to my knees, my eyes begin to close
Here I'll die after conquering foes
My blood on the ground where I'll soon lay
I knew how it'd end but there was no other way
My sword falls from my hand and the last thing I see
Are the hands of my loved one wrapping around me.....
It is done
I have won
